Doodle of the Week

This week's doodle is another mixed bag. A new shape for me this week is the orange slice. I am assuming that it was supposed to be a circle, but I got to the edge of the paper and didn't have room. I like it though, and may have to explore it further.

It is snowing today. It was supposed to transition to rain, but maybe...After all it is February. I hope it is the usual polite Portland snow which hangs around long enough to look pretty before melting.

The droopy, paired leaves on the left are something I picked up on a walk. I often pinch a bit of a plant that interests me and study it. I am going to have to watch this plant in another season. I like the droopiness, but I think it may be because of winter. If it is the plant's natural habit, I am going to have to find out what it is.

Doodle of the Week

This week's doodle is a bunch of crazy flowers.

I often draw flowers. I often draw medallions. I often draw leaves. But, I don't think I have ever put them together this way.

I like it. A classic doodle from childhood run amok.

Doodle of Last Week

Another image that I had ready to post on Friday but failed to post. The Doodle of Last Week is getting to be a regular feature here.

Also last week: I participated in Art @ The Poster Garden as a vendor on First Thursday in the Pearl. (BTW, The Poster Garden has nothing to do with posters.)

I didn't even know that I was in the show until I get the card and my name was on it. That was Tuesday, and the event was Thursday evening.

I felt it would reflect poorly on me if my name was listed and I didn't show, so I had to do it. I managed to get it together (thank you Pattie!) and show, but it was a frantic scramble.

It was good in a way, the experience reminded me of how much I hate art festivals with everybody in their little booths. I was beginning to forget and was entertaining the idea of applying for a few. It is not for me. I will stick to galleries, art consultants and juried shows.

Sometimes you have to take a side road to no where to remember that you were already traveling the right path.

So, here is a doodle of the usual suspects: Botanical materials. A perennial favorite! Heh-heh, just a bit of the old gardening humor there. Really OLD gardening humor. Sorry about that, but I can never resist.

Doodle of Last Week

It has been a while since I have posted a list. Here is what is apparently a list of knives.

I need new knives. I have a cheapo set from when we were 1st married. They have never been any good and I have always meant to replace them with good quality ones.

Never did it. However, Mr. Doodler couldn't take it any more and has ordered new blades.

The missing corner was a drawing unsuitable for a G rated blog. Thought I would leave you wondering what it was...

Doodle of the Week

Ah, summer. Best laid plans and routine gets shot all to heck. This makes for a perfect time to doodle, but for a lazy poster. I'm blaming it on the heat.

This is a fun doodle. Reminds me of when you drew all over your paper cover on your textbook during class. Funny, that summer would make me think of school.

Again, I am blaming it on the heat! Got that? Good!

Doodle of the Week

This week we have a flower doodle. It is my volunteer poppy. I have no idea where it came from, but it is a big double, almost like a peony, in a lovely raspberry color. Something I would have picked if I had a choice!

The two things I have never been able to grow: poppies of any sort and nasturtiums. I know, both as common as dirt, but not for me. So this natural gift makes me way too happy.

I have been looking at lots of Japanese patterns. I am really liking the cloud and water shapes which are so characteristic of Japanese decorative work, that is probably why I am so drawn to this particular doodle. The same shape is present and I got to repeat it over and over.

Doodle of the Week

This week's doodle is from last night. I like these very stylized flowers. They almost look like block prints.

Went to my friends Liz and Noel's opening, and then came home and watched Chinatown. I had never seen it. I know why: It was rated R, and I was too young to see an R rated movie. Good movie, fun costumes, great old cars. Jack Nicholson is so young! Apparently he didn't always  look crazy. Who knew?

Monday, Monday

Some weekend doodles for you.

Did you have a lovely Mother's Day? I did. It was pretty sedate though. We went for a hike up in Forest Park. Not the best hike ever, but fun and good company. It was a figure 8 loop trip, so extra points for that. We strung the hike together with two trails and a couple of fire lanes. 

I want to showcase this little doodle from this page because it is all line work. Different. Scribbley. Unique for me. Normally, I go over and over the same line until it is all built up and juicy because it is soothing and meditative. This time I didn't.

Doodle of the Week

I quite like this group of stylized floral images. Perhaps they were influenced by Queen Elizabeth's visit, because they look like heraldic symbols.

Couldn't you easily imagine any of them on pennants or shields?

The heraldic image ( a logo of sorts) appeared on flags, buildings, armor, rings, goblets, etc etc. All sorts of things to remind friend or foe that they were dealing with not just anyone, but this particular person or family. Heraldry was an early form of branding.

Doodle of the Week

This week's doodle is a little spring vignette.  Leaves and flowers.

I am not a poet, so I will not even try to express the beauty of Spring. I could never do it justice. When I think of the season, I think it is lovely just like any other season.

Then Spring comes, and I see for real that it is awesome and amazing. The Earth is truly reborn anew each year. I am humbled and grateful every time.
