Wonderful Time of the Year

I love that commercial where the dad is frolicking around some office supply place to the song It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year while his kids shuffle sadly along behind him. (Found it. I am sure that I have never told you how much I love Google...)

Thursday is the Symphony in the Park  which is the official end of summer event for me. An orchestra and cannons, just the perfect little something to make that picnic extra special. Eat your heart out Martha Stewart!

It is a new season, so why not take an art class and learn a new skill? Here are a few classes given by some friends of mine, so I know they will be fun.

For those of you who missed the last one, Raina Imig will be giving another Fused Glass Plate Workshop. Here is the skinny: During class, participants will learn how to make a square, sushi style, 8 inch square fused glass plate.

You learn the basics of glass cutting, glass fusion, and simple design to create a beautiful original work of art to keep or give away.
Plates are fired and slumped after class, and you will be informed when they are ready for pick up!

Location: 1476 NE Alberta Street (Talisman Gallery) 
Date: Friday, October 24, 7-9:30pm
Cost: $ 60 for class [one plate]
(3 pendants included at no extra charge)
     Additional plate $ 35

Or, take this fun looking Collage Flower class, Tear It Up, from Serena Barton:  

Create fantastic flower collages from torn paper- magazine pages, colored paper, tissue paper, collage papers, letters, handmade papers and more. You'll learn how to use various papers to create depth, shadows and highlights. 

This is a fun, no worry way to express yourself while creating art for your home or as gifts. You will leave with a pair of collages, or maybe a trio!

Very mixed media artist, Bonnie Meltzer, at Onda Gallery. Bonnie will give an artist talk on Saturday August 16 at 3pm.

Ceramicist Liz Sullivan will be at the Arts & Eats on the River Festival in St Helens OR on Saturday, August 9th,
and at  A Taste of Tannesbourn in Hillsboro, OR on August 15-17th.

Dean Shapiro will be showing his fabulous screens at the Woodstock Neighborhood Fair on August 16th at Woodstock Park.
