It’s time for another edition of Things I am Looking At, the bookmark list is getting long.
I have been to two shows this season at Pulliam Gallery in Portland, that I have found inspiring.
Linda Hitchins. She is a favorite of mine anyhow, but I can’t say enough how much I like these drawings and how beautiful I find them.
The linework is so fine that I thought they were made of thread, but they are drawings. Everything that goes to down to the right was drawn right handed, and the lines that go down to the left were drawn left handed. It is a meditative practice made visible and it is absolutely gorgeous.
Left Hand Screw, india ink on watercolor paper, Linda Hitchens
Jeffrey Mitchell’s snowflake sculptures from his show pot & snowflake. I love work that casts shadows. I also like that they hark back to a second grade art project. (images for both from the Pulliam Gallery website)
Snowflakes, pinned wall installation, Jeffery Mitchell
Pablo Lehmann
Intricate cutwork by Pablo Lehmann. This is more what I imagine when I think of cutwork. Such patience and a lot of exacto blades! You can see more of his work on his website. (via of paper and things)
Valeria Nascimento. Her work is about repetitive sequencing which I always find compelling visually. You will thank me if you take the time to click through her site.
Depot Visuals is all in German, so I have no clue what these are, but I like them a lot.
This photograph just makes me happy. Thank you, Andrew Bush!
The River Diagram, Lo Shu, Alfred Jensen
Alfred Jensen. Why did I not know about this man’s work before now? He was active when I was in school, did I just dismiss it at the time? Well, I love it now! Ps.You have to click on the image to see it fullsize
Winter's Weight, Duncan Johnson
Look at Duncan Johnson’s work made with abandoned wood he finds near his home. I especially like the colors of this one.
Beijing-based artist Wang Yuyang’s Artificial Moon. How cool is that? It is waaaaay better than my neighbor’s bug light. Or how about some clouds made of sticks? (both at My Modern Metropolis)
This has to be in the running for the absolute best time waster on the web! I find it hypnotic. Guilloche Pattern Generator at subblue.
Consider yourself lucky that I only post things I go back to more than once or twice. Otherwise, we would be here all month!
