Doodle of the Week

This week's doodle is another long comet tail of medallions. I can endlessly make concentric circle doodles like these.

I don't really know if this is true or not, but they say that the first shape that chldren make, when they stop random scribbling, and start drawing is the circle. 

Ok, so I had to look it up. I found this chart, but not much else. Betty Edwards, The Drawing From the Right Side of the Brain lady, apparently believes this as well.

  You do find lots of drawings by children. I love this particular phase, called the tadpole stage, when children make pictures that are symbolic rather than representational. Children all over the world make this style of drawing. This one was made by William Robinson at 4 1/2.

Doodle of Last Week

This was supposed to be last week's doodle. I just plain forgot to post it, even though I knew which one I was going to use.

This one.

I like the quality of the line. You can see it better if you enlarge the image. The line throughout the doodle is sketchy, the line is tenous and uncertain. It is doubled and trippled. There is something sensuous about it, going over and over the same shape.

Doodle of the Week

High contrast for this week. See, sometimes things really are black or white. (Do me a favor and click to enlarge this one, it looks much better,)

No, really, it's true. There are orcas, zebras, skunks, penguins, weasels, magpies, pandas. Cows, cats, dogs, and horses can be black and white. That's right off the top of my head. I bet if you go and ask your average 9-year-old, she will come up with a whole bunch more.

To tell the truth, this whole train of thought began with butterflies. I was looking up butterflies, and I found this, a Paper Kite butterfly. What a beautiful name for such an ephmeral creature.
