Bet you thought I forgot about this, but I didn’t. I do see that it will take me into the Fall to complete this project, but I don't have to change the name yet.
The Trust Your Muscle Memory exercise doesn’t involve writing and took a full 2 weeks to complete. You take a series of movements and practice it for a week. Then you don’t do it for a week, you only think about it. After the week is up, you see if you can still do it.
I thought it was a piece of cake and had no trouble doing it at all. It is just taking time to learn to train your muscle memory. This exercise is more for people who are not very physical and don’t use their bodies, than it is for someone who is physically active by nature and who uses her hands in her work like I do.
I am interested in this same process. Tharp is a dancer, and does the same thing with gross body movement that I have always done instinctively by doodling. I have chosen to focus on this by setting things up so that I spend a good part of the time doodling, rather than drawing.
